npm

A JavaScript package manager.

Fancy Install (Unix)

There’s a pretty robust install script at https://www.npmjs.com/install.sh. You can download that and run it.

Here’s an example using curl:

curl -L https://www.npmjs.com/install.sh | sh

Slightly Fancier

You can set any npm configuration params with that script:

npm_config_prefix=/some/path sh install.sh

Or, you can run it in uber-debuggery mode:

npm_debug=1 sh install.sh

HTTP-Server

The http-server is a simple, zero-configuration command-line http server.

Installing globally:

Installation via npm:

 npm install http-server -g

This will install http-server globally so that it may be run from the command line.

Usage:

 http-server [path] [options]

[path] defaults to ./public if the folder exists, and ./ otherwise.

Installing as a node app

 mkdir myapp
 cd myapp/
 jitsu install http-server

If you do not have jitsu installed you can install it via npm install jitsu -g

Usage

Starting http-server locally

 node node_modules/http-server/bin/http-server

Now you can visit http://localhost:8081 to view your server
